Stone
In the Alto Magdalena Valley, spanning the river narrows and the towns of San Agustín and Isnos, lies a sacred landscape where, 2,300 years ago, a mythical culture honored the dead with imposing stone statues carved to guard their tombs. Here, crystal-clear pale green waters contrast with the force of massive rocks that constrict the river into a natural channel.
Amid an amalgam of textures and colors, the cool breeze born between the Central and Eastern Andes feeds legends of spirits believed to hold the knowledge of nature. The River of Tombs, as its ancient inhabitants called it, evokes a mythical tradition of stone carving and ancestral knowledge that Menguante brings forward in each of its pieces.
Through stone, these pieces reflect the need to reclaim our culture and recognize the value of knowledge passed from family to family, keeping an ancestral tradition alive. Giving this traditional technique a place in the contemporary world allows the presence of our ancestors to emerge once again, carrying a trace of their spirit into every piece.
