METAL

Metal

The first metals used by humankind were gold, silver, and copper. Over time, it was discovered that when copper was melted in a high-temperature furnace and combined with a small amount of tin, it produced a much harder metal—easier to cast and suited to many more applications: bronze. Bronze played a vital role in human development, making it possible to create weapons, agricultural tools, and ornaments.

Steel was discovered by accident.

It soon became the preferred material for making armor and weapons. Steel is unique and highly versatile, allowing for an endless range of alloys and finishes. Today, metals have not lost their original purpose. Their malleability, ease of casting, enduring brilliance, and ability to reflect light have allowed Gerardo Borda to create a perfect union: the marriage of metal and minerals found throughout Colombia’s vast natural landscape. Together, they shape each of Menguante’s handcrafted pieces.
